I softened the focus on this to show that the worrier isn't really conscious of the bitten nails. The color is cooled and partially desaturated to depict worring oneself to death.
Those nails don't look as bitten as I have seen before. I like the colouring and partial desat, but I think a bit more of a contrast layer on it would have snapped it. When you tone with a single colour you lose some of nuance of shade and tone from the original colours, and need to increase contrast a bit to compensate for that. But I do like the softness of it. Well done.
I agree with Kim about the lacking of contrast. Lack of light and shadow means your image will lack depth and the final result is flat. To control the darks and lights in your image, you could go into Image/Adjustments/Selective color and play with the sliders while using the drop down to choose Blacks and Whites. Using only the black slider, pull it up to bring up dark tones, and then using the black slider again for the Whites, pull it down to bring in more highlights in the white. You may also use the black slider with the Gray dropdown to balance out the final result. Hope this helps.
Interesting composition that leads my eyes right around. Very clean bitten nails, most biters have rough, jagged edges gnawed all the way down as far as they can :)

ReplyDeleteAlright another hand idea I can steal!
ReplyDeleteThey don't look bitten just very short :-)
ReplyDeleteSome good tips here (oops not finger tips, photo tips)
I like the partial desat here, especially after reading your theory and description.
