I love the top part of this image, but the lower section lets it down, as you already admitted. This would be helped with a little bit of a reflector at the left to give some slight definition to the left side of the bowl, and also, put a piece of cardboard or something out of the frame, and blocking the unwanted light falling on your background. You can control your light with all manner of contraptions if we can't see them in the frame!
Thanks again, everyone. I took the low angle because the fruit didn't look very good when you could really see it. I do need to get a reflector someday.... and some real lights. Thanks for the tip on blocking the light, kimbomac. I think something a bit transparent would have been perfect, like some fabric.
The light was the one of the problems I had with my lion shot, so I used some card to control the overflow. Lovely set up you have, the dark top and left is an interesting contrast to the bright fruit.

ReplyDeleteA lovely attempt at the style though! Well done!
It looks like a renaissance painting! Very nice :-)
ReplyDeleteI really love the lighting on this one.
ReplyDeleteOooh! I like this one. Nicely shot.
ReplyDeleteThe fruit looks good, I agree on the bottom part being a tad to light.
ReplyDeleteLove the light on the fruit but I don't think the low angle was a great choice for this one.
ReplyDeleteLooks like more of a shot of the bowl than a shot of the fruit. Maybe a little higher angle and a little closer. Wonderful lighting!
ReplyDeleteA unique view from below...

Great lighting, Kat. It does look like something one of the old Masters would have painted!
ReplyDeleteNice lighting to give a mood to the image.
ReplyDeleteI'd have preferred to see more of the fruit. The shooting angle is a bit low. But great lighting
ReplyDeleteVery well taken still live.
ReplyDeleteReally mysterious but at the same time so old fashioned as well (this is meant in a good way).
egonlinden.
I like the lighting, it adds depth to the still life
