Day 1: Tea Anyone?

Hi - This is my first-ever blog!  I hope I do it right.  I'm posting my Day 1 photo for the Worth1000 30-Day Draconian Challenge.  I'm doing the All-Techniques Challenge.

My technique for today is Lighting:  2. Sidelighting.

  1. Nice capture of steam! I always find capturing steam difficult to achieve. I like your lighting and the glowing element really adds to the shot.

  2. Great start. The pink below complements the blue kettle and is very appealing. The overall minimalist composition is very nice. Great job.

  3. Great shot. I like to use a white card just out of the shot as a reflector to add that subtle highlight on the back side of the teapot to create a little separation from the background.

  4. Love the lighting. This has a spooky feel to me. Like it was ripped from a scene in a scary movie.

Great atmosphere, very "sciencefictionous". Good luck with all-technique challenge!

I love the different colors in tehre and that we can still see the steam.

  12. I know I commented here days ago, I don't know where it went. I love the color combination here, and the steam is just topping

  13. Thank you for the comments and suggestions. The steam was tricky. I only had one shot at this, and then my background poster board went limp from the steam. The steam was tricky. I didn't have enough light on it, and couldn't reshoot, so I had to lasso it as best I could, then pump it up as much as possible without ruining the black. I think I should have toned down the burner a bit. I don't have proper lights or a reflector. Maybe someday.... This was lit with an LED flashlight, slightly blue.
