Day 15: Teacups

Day 15:  Color, Pastels

I tried processing raw files for the first time today.  What an eye-opener!  I use Photoshop Elements, and the tools are completely different!  I was amazed.  I still need to get some decent lighting, but now I'm seeing the possibilities.  Wow!  I was so happy, I put a big 'ol frame around my photo.  I know I went overboard, but I was having fun.  :)

  1. The pale and delicate colours of this are soooo pretty and beautiful, and you have done a great job capturing them. I LOVE that big loop handle sticking out in front of the others. Ingenious! The large reflections of the lights are perhaps a little distracting, so perhaps a great big sheet between them and your cups might make for a less distractingly discernible reflection. Very nice work though!

  2. Ack! I was going to go get some covers for the lights, but thought first I'd see how the pics were looking so far (still figuring out shooting in manual mode). Then I decided to try the raw converter, then processing in raw.... I got carried away and completely forgot that I was going to fix the glaring lights! Oh well, I'm still pumped about the raw processing. It made such a difference on the pastels. :) (I love my Fiesta ware, too!)

  3. Very sweet and elegant.
Before I actually bought a cheap lighttent I would craft temp tents with sheets or use a piece of paper or semitransparant plastic bags to do the trick. I also saved for a Gary Fong lightsphere for my speedlite and it works wonders.

  4. Thank you for the tips. I'm making a wish list of lighting equipment that I'll get someday... after my kids graduate from college. It's nice to know what else to put on the list.

I have a light box that I made. It works pretty well, but I had set up something else in its place for another shot and didn't feel like setting it back up. Lazy. ;) I also have some white fabric I should have put over my lights but didn't.

  7. OH, yes, once you go raw, you are hooked and cannot ever go back! Love the cups and especially that circular handle which really makes the photo very interesting. The highlights on the cups are a bit blown out but not too badly. Keep up the good work!
